GENERAL SESSION: PROCESSING & MANUFACTURING - WHAT’S THE END GAME?

11:30 AM - 12:30 PM • Grand Ballroom

Processing CBD is often referred to as extraction and is typically the main topic in CBD production. This is equivalent to referring to farming as just running a tractor and we all know farming is so much more. During processing panels one of the most common questions asked is, “what’s the best extraction method?” Like comparing farming and tractor, CBD processing is much more than extraction and best method. CBD processing consists of multiple factors and determining best method for each factor…well…that depends what’s the end game. Therefore, in this panel we will discuss different end games and work backward to discuss best method to reach the right end game.

Panel includes:

  • Nick Akins – CEO, CBDmi & Managing Partner, Natural Life

In the hemp industry (or any industry in general at this point) it isn't enough to just have a Facebook page or Instagram account. Why? Because there are over 60 million business pages on Facebook and 25 million business accounts on Instagram. In 2019 you have to work smarter AND harder to get noticed. From branding and imagery to overall strategy, join us to find out how to make your hemp brand stand out on social media.

Speaker: J. Michael Roach – Creative Director, The Good Seed

BREAKOUT SESSION: PORTABLE, FAST, AND ACCURATE COMPLIANCE TESTING

3:45 PM - 5:00 PM • Clark Room

Given the recent seizures of hemp shipments and the necessity of hemp farmers to keep their crops below the 0.3% THC legal limit, hemp farmers and law enforcement need a portable, fast, and accurate hemp analyzer. The BSS 3000 Hemp Compliance Analyzer from Big Sur Scientific uses proven mid-infrared technology and determines Total THC in dried, ground hemp with an accuracy of 0.04%, more than sufficient for a compliance tester. The unit is lightweight, portable, requires little sample preparation, and features easy push-button operation which gives results in 2 minutes. The BSS 3000 measures THCA, THC, CBDA, CBD, and several other cannabinoids in hemp giving a full cannabinoid profile. The BSS 3000 also measures cannabinoids in hemp extracts, oils, distillates, and CBD in MCT oil. The importance of in-house testing for the hemp industry will be emphasized, and the application of mid-infrared spectroscopy in hemp farming, CBD extraction, and law enforcement will be discussed.

Speaker: Dr. Brian C. Smith – Founder, CEO, & Chief Technical Officer, Big Sur Scientific

BREAKOUT SESSION: ANALYTICAL TESTING FOR THE HEMP INDUSTRY

3:45 PM - 5:00 PM • Clackamas Room

One challenge that has emerged is the ability to ensure consumer safety, providing accurate dosing and products that are free from potential contaminants. Analytical testing is a necessary component to ensure consumer safety for products that are being consumed both medicinally as well as recreationally.

With craft ethics, affordable prices, and a strong "know your farmer" ethos, Frogsong Farm seeks to set a standard to which other hemp farms can aspire. Frogsong Farm is Better Business Bureau accredited and the first Certified B Corporation in the hemp industry. Their full-spectrum CBD tinctures, salves, and gels are available nationwide from FrogsongFarm.com.

This family of hemp farmers are on a mission to heal both land and people. Their 2019 grow has been certified organic. You will find no use of chemicals of any type on their crops or ground (other than some organic fertilizers). See how they practice regenerative farming with a goal of making their farm’s soils and farm ecosystem healthier and more resilient with each passing year. Check out their experimental no-till farming along with more traditional organic farming.

Please note there are specific limitations on photography during the tour. No photos of the owner’s home, surrounding neighbors, or their extraction equipment are allowed.
